11th BRICS NSA Meeting

Current Context: The 11th edition of the BRICS High Representatives Responsible for National Security meeting was held in a virtual manner.

• The meeting was chaired by India’s National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval.
• The dignitaries from BRICS nations participated in the meeting.
• The meeting was held to strengthen political-security cooperation among BRICS nations.
• The meeting observed the adoption of the BRICS counter-terrorism action plan. The action plan will help to boost cooperation in the areas like finance, combating terrorism, misuse of the internet by terrorists, curbing the travel of terrorists, border controls, protection of soft targets, information sharing, capacity building, and regional and international cooperation.
• The dignitaries also discussed the Afghanistan scenario, and developments in Iran, West Asia and the Gulf region.
• Indian side discussed the threat at the border of the country and issues related to cross country terrorism.
• The dignitaries assured to cooperate in the field of cyber security and assured to share best practices to eradicate terrorism and cyber-related crimes.
