  • As per the index ranking, India is placed at 2nd position and has thus become the world’s second most desired manufacturing destination.
  • The top position is marked by China.
  • The 3rd position is marked by the US.
  • In 2020, India was at 3rd rank, but due to the improvements in working conditions, cost competitiveness, India’s rank has improved in 2021.
  • The index calculated ranks for 47 countries based on the parameters like:
    • Bounce Back: Ability to restart manufacturing tasks after the vaccination drives rolled out
    • Conditions: This includes business environment, availability of labour and skill sets, access to market
    • Costs: It includes labour cost, electricity and real estate
    • Risks: Political, Environmental and Economical risks are considered
