EIU’s Safe Cities Index 2021

Current Context: The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has released the Safe Cities Index 2021.
EIU’s Safe Cities Index 2021
  • The index includes ranking for 60 major global cities by considering 76 indicators in the major domains like digital, health, infrastructure, environmental and personal security.
  • The ranking is topped by Copenhagen with a score of 82.4 out of 100.
  • The 2nd and 3rd positions are marked by Toronto (Score: 82.2) and Singapore (score: 80.7) respectively.
  • The least rank was marked by Yangon with a score of 39.5 and is thus termed as the least safe city.
  • From India, Mumbai and New Delhi have marked their positions in the index. New Delhi is placed at the 48th position and Mumbai is placed at the 50th position.
  • The level of safety was defined in terms of scores like: It the score is between 0-25, then the city is said to be at low safety. Likewise, if the score is 25.1 to 50, then Medium Safety, if the score is 50.1 to 75, then High Safety and, if the score is 75.1 to 100, then Very High Safety.
