Current Context: The Commonwealth Secretariat in London has released a new Global Youth Development Index.
Global Youth Development Index
  • The index measures the condition of young people from a total of 181 countries.
  • Under the index, India is ranked at 122nd position and it was found that India is among the top five risers on the index between 2010 and 2018.
  • The 1st rank is achieved by Singapore.
  • The other rank holders followed by Singapore are Slovenia, Norway, Malta and Denmark respectively.
  • The lowest ranks are marked by Chad, the Central African Republic, South Sudan, Afghanistan and Niger respectively.
  • The index is calculated according to the development made by countries in youth education, employment, health, equality and inclusion, peace and security, and political and civic participation.
  • The condition and status of young people around the world have increased by 3.1% between 2010 and 2018.
