Current Context: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of multiple projects in Somnath, Gujarat.

  • The event took place in a virtual manner i.e. via video conferencing.
  • PM Modi inaugurated Somnath Promenade, which is developed under PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive) Scheme. The total cost of Somnath Promenade is over Rs. 47 crore.
  • He also inaugurated Somnath Exhibition Centre which is developed on the premises of ‘Tourist Facilitation Centre’. The exhibition centre showcase the exhibits from dismantled parts of the old Somnath temple and its sculptures having Nagar style temple architecture of old Somnath.
  • He also inaugurated the reconstructed temple precinct of Old (Juna) Somnath. The reconstruction work was completed by Shree Somnath Trust with funds of Rs 3.5 crore. This temple is also well known as AhilyabaiTemple. The reconstruction work was made with a view to offering safety to the pilgrims and with augmented capacity.
  • PM Modi laid the foundation stone for Shree Parvati Temple. For this, the funds of Rs 30 crore are sanctioned. The temple will be constructed in Sompura Salats Style, the development of Garbha Griha and Nritya Mandap.
