- The mission was launched to make India self-sufficient in cooking oils by inducting ‘palm oil’.
- He announced that Rs 11,000 crore will be invested in the edible oil ecosystem.
- Currently, India is not sufficient in edible oils and has to be dependent on imports in huge numbers. Therefore, to make India self-sufficient in terms of edible oils, the mission was launched.
- Under the mission, the central government will offer facilities like quality seeds and technology to the farmers to produce palm oil and other oil seeds.
- The mission will focus on the cultivation of oil palm.
- While launching the mission, PM Modi mentioned that north-eastern states and Andaman and the Nicobar Islands should perform palm farming.
- The mission will also help to raise the income of farmers.
