Current Context: The Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik announced to launch ‘Smart Health Cards Scheme’.

  • The scheme will be covering 3.5 crore people of 96 lakh families.
  • The scheme will be launched under the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana.
  • The ‘Smart Health Cards Scheme’ will provide hassle-free health treatment services. It aims to transform the health service delivery system.
  • The Smart Health Cards will be similar to debit cards for a certain amount.
  • By doing so, Odisha has become the first state in India to provide such Smart Health Cards to its people.
  • The smart cards will be distributed to beneficiaries of National and State Food Security Schemes and beneficiaries of Annapurna and Antodaya.
  • The families having smart health cards will be able to avail treatment upto Rs 5 lakh per annum.
  • The women member of the family can avail the benefit of treatment of upto Rs 10 lakh every year.
