- The campaign was launched to create Open Defecation Free (ODF) plus villages by undertaking wastewater management at the village level.
- It is a 100-day long campaign and is part of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
- The campaign will be executed to attain ODF plus status for villages in India at the rigorous level in a short span of time.
- The members will execute the campaign by creating one million soak-pits and also other adopting greywater management activities. This will also help to achieve sustainable management of water bodies.
- This will solve the problem of disposal of wastewater and clogging of water bodies in the villages or on the outskirts of the villages.
- Thus waterbodies will be revived through this 100-day long campaign.
- The ‘SUJALAM’ Campaign will also work to enhance the moto under Swachch Bharat Mission Grameen Phase II by encouraging community participation and making awareness about ODF-plus activities.
- Various activities like organizing community consultations, gram sabha meetings etc will be organised to analyse the current status of the campaign.
- The campaign will focus on constructing 1 million soak pits, retrofitting toilets and access of toilets to the new houses.
