Three Online Applications Launched by DST
  • The applications will deliver geospatial data which is collected by the government and associated organisations to the people in a free and easy manner
  • The applications were unveiled by DST Secretary Ashutosh Sharma
  • The applications are: (a) Survey of India (SOI) GEO Spatial Data Dissemination Portal (b) SOI's Sarathi Web Geographical Information System (GIS) application (c) Machitran, the enterprise Geoportal of National Atlas and Thematic Mapping Organisation (NATMO)
    • (a) Survey of India (SOI) GEO Spatial Data Dissemination Portal: It is developed by SOI and it has digital products like digital geographical map, political map, digital geographical road map, digital geographical physical map of India, and open series map scale. It will provide all the geographical data to the GOI and people
    • (b) SOI's Sarathi Web GIS application: This application will allow GIS into the hands of the people thereby saving their time and resources in data validation with an audit trail. This application will facilitate SVAMITVA (Survey of villages and mapping with improvised technology in village areas), which is an initiative of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj. Due to this application, there won’t be any need to create the customized application as it provides a mechanism for integrating GIS with other business systems
    • (c) Machitran, the enterprise Geoportal of NATMO: It is developed by NATMO. It will fulfill the requirements of students, researchers, policymakers, etc. The data which was acquired by NATMO till date in the last 65 years is being displayed on this application. Therefore, the users will be able to download the data and can give feedback about the maps, atlas, and geospatial data layers
