- The CM announced the welfare package worth Rs 317.40 crore.
- The funds will be used to provide housing and infrastructure facilities in the Srilankan refugee camps of the state.
- The committee will be set up which will ensure the proper delivery of the funds under the package and will grant sufficient assistance for the welfare of Sri Lankan Tamil refugees.
- The committee will work towards long-term solutions on matters like citizenship and making arrangements for those returning to Sri Lanka.
- Out of the funds, Rs 261.54 crore will be used to improve infrastructure, Rs 12.25 crore will be used to provide education and employment opportunities, and Rs 43.61 crore for raising their living standards.
- Around 7,469 dilapidated tenements in camps will be reconstructed with funds of Rs 231.54 crore.
- Also, Rs 108.81 crore will be allotted to construct 3,510 new houses.
- Every year, Rs 5 crore will be allotted to improve basic amenities like drinking water, and the state government will pay the tuition and hostel fees of 55 students, who are children of refugees.
- Also, 50 engineering students and 5 students in agriculture and agriculture-engineering streams will be able to avail of special assistance on the basis of their marks.
- The cash support of Rs 1,500 per month will be provided to the family heads, Rs 1000 for other members, and Rs 400 for children under 12 years.
