Current Context: The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD) has signed an MoU with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

  • The MoU was signed to improve India’s livestock sector.
  • It will help to support food and nutritional security.
  • It will also help to protect the economic well-being of small-scale livestock producers.
  • Both the entities will work to enhance animal health and various production programs will be executed to attain the objectives of the MoU.
  • They will work to strengthen animal husbandry infrastructure, develop of entrepreneurship skills in the respective sector.
  • The technical assistance will be granted by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. It will assist in designing and delivering new technologies. It will make sure that best practices are being implemented.
  • Under the MoU, the One Health framework will also be implemented which will track and resolve animal and human health challenges and will prevent infection and disease outbreaks.
