Current Context: OneWeb which is backed by Bharti Group has signed MoU with Hughes Network System which is a United States company.
OneWeb signed MoU with Hughes Network System
  • The MoU was signed to distribute satellite services in India and the US.
  • The MoU was signed at the session held at Satellite 2021 in the US for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite service in both countries.
  • The MoU is the strategic agreement that will distribute satellite service networks in India and mostly to the sectors like large enterprises, SMEs, government entities, telecom sectors, Internet Service Providers in rural parts of India.
  • Both entities will jointly expand their satellite distribution network at the global level.
  • The partnership can be termed as ‘Hughes offered OneWeb’s low latency and high-speed connectivity satellite distribution network’.
  • The services will be granted by Hughes Network Systems, LLC, and Hughes Communications India.
  • The parent company of Hughes named ‘EchoStar’ is a major investor in OneWeb and it is working to build its initial constellation of 648 LEO Satellites and the service associated through it will commence in 2021 in the Arctic region, Alaska, UK, and Canada.
  • And by the end of 2022, OneWeb will grant its connectivity services globally.
