Current Context: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has signed an MoU with the Ministry of Food Processing Industries.

  • The MoU was signed to support micro food entrepreneurs, farmer producer organisations (FPOs), self-help groups (SHGs), and producers cooperatives in order to improve the standard of food businesses they perform.
  • The MoU will help to enhance the quality of food products and become competitive in their respective market.
  • The FPOs, SHGs, micro food entrepreneurs will be given training sessions on how to maintain good hygiene and manufacturing practices. They will be trained with food testing methods and knowledge will be given about regulatory norms.
  • On completion of the training, they will be given a ‘Food Safety Supervisor’ certificate by FSSAI.
  • The MoU will also help micro-enterprises to obtain an FSSAI license and registration.
