Current Context: The ‘Global TB report for 2021’ was released by World Health Organisation (WHO).
‘Global TB Report for 2021’
  • The report highlighted the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic that led to a huge reversal in the progress of Tuberculosis (TB) elimination.
  • As per the report, India is the worst-hit country in TB elimination.
  • The country detected new TB cases and saw a huge impact in 2020.
  • The reduction of 20% TB cases was observed in 2020 as compared to 2019. There was a gap of 4.1 million TB cases.
  • The work progress of TB detection has went back to the levels of 2012, India observed 41% of the total case drop in 2020.
