Jal Jeevan Mission App and Rashtriya Jal Jeevan Kosh

Current Context: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Jal Jeevan Mission mobile application and Rashtriya Jal Jeevan Kosh.

• The Jal Jeevan Mission was launched in August 2019 by Prime Minister Modi. It aims to grant clean tap water to every household in the country.
• Jal Jeevan Mission app: It will help to improve awareness among stakeholders. It will lead to having greater transparency and accountability of schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission initiative.
• Rashtriya Jal Jeevan Kosh (RJJK): It will help to facilitate contributions for the creation of a safe drinking water supply in villages of India. It is a registered public charitable trust. It is set up by the department of drinking water and sanitation, under the Jal Shakti ministry.
• It will be a medium for the collection of donations which will be utilized to execute the mission objective in Indian villages. It will also promote R&D, innovation work, and technology usage to provide clean tap water to the villages.
• The RJJK will also help to enhance capacity building which will work to plan, implement, manage, operate and maintain their water supply schemes.
• Various water conservation efforts will also take place under RJJK.
• Its audit will be conducted annually by an independent auditor from a panel of auditors impaneled with the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG).
• The donations and contributions made to RJJK are eligible for 50% deductions under section 80G of the Income Tax Act.
