LMDC Ministerial Meeting

Current Context: The Union Minister for Environment Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav participated in the Like-Minded Developing Countries (LMDC) Ministerial meeting in a virtual manner.

• The meeting was held under the title of ‘Preparations for COP 26 on Climate Change – Expectations and Challenges’.
• It was hosted by Bolivia.
• Around 25 developing countries from Asia and other regions are part of LMDC.
• At the meeting, Union Minister Bhupender Yadav recommended having a rapid reduction of emissions.
• He also mentioned adopting transformative actions to tackle harmful climate change problems.
• He mentioned the commitments of carbon neutrality.
• He mentioned that between 2005 and 2016, India has reduced 25% in emission intensity of its GDP.
• He talked about various initiatives undertaken by India like renewable energy, energy access, energy efficiency, sustainable transport, e-mobility, and sustainable agriculture.
