Current Context: NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), the American Space Agency has launched the Lucy space probe successfully.

  • It was launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida.
  • It is the beginning of a 12-year mission to study Jupiter’s Trojan asteroids.
  • The Lucy spacecraft aboard a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket.
  • The name Lucy to the spacecraft is named after the fossilized human skeleton which was discovered in Ethiopia in 1974.
  • NASA’s Lucy mission will be the first mission to explore the Trojans.
  • It will take its journey to eight different asteroids, a main-belt asteroid, and seven Jupiter trojans.
