Current Context: The State Energy Efficiency Index 2020 (SEEI) was released under the Ministry of Power.

  • The index is released by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and the Alliance for an Energy-Efficient Economy (AEEE).
  • Karnataka has topped the index ranking by scoring 70 points out of 100.
  • Karnataka has held various initiatives to improve its energy efficiency.
  • The second and third ranks are marked by Rajasthan and Haryana respectively.
  • The index analyzed the states and UTs in four categories namely: Aspirant with a score below 30 points, Contenders with a score between 30-50, Achievers with a score of 50-60, and the Frontrunners with above 60 points score.
  • Frontrunners: Karnataka and Rajasthan
  • Achievers: Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Haryana, Punjab
  • Contenders: Assam, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh
