Current Context: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the COP26 Glasgow Climate Summit.

  • The COP26 Glasgow Climate Summit was held in Scotland.
  • At the summit, he highlighted that India will reach net-zero carbon emission by 2070.
  • He mentioned the five-point plan or ‘Panchamrit’ to tackle the harmful effects of global warming and climate change.
  • He mentioned that India will raise its 2030 target for an installed capacity of ‘non-fossil energy’. Solar energy will be increased from 450 to 500 gigawatts.
  • India will fulfill its demand for energy through renewable energy by 2030. It will consume 50% of its energy from renewable energy.
  • He also highlighted India’s initiatives like Nal Se Jal, Clean India Mission & Ujjawala have impacted the quality of life of people.
  • He assured that India is contributed to fulfilling the Paris agreements goals and will keep doing in the future.
