- The ‘DBT-Star College Mentorship Programme’ is the first-ever mentorship program launched for young innovators in India.
- The program was also launched to celebrate the 75th year of India’s Independence.
- The program was launched by the Ministry of Science and Technology and through this program, the ministry aims to promote and motivate the concept of networking, hand-holding, and outreach.
- The program is basically a Pan India scheme that will develop a vision to set up ‘Star College’ in districts of India.
- Every ‘Star College’ will get the support from Department of Biotechnology (DBT) which comes under the Ministry of Science and Technology.
- Various workshops, meetings per month, handholding events will be held at the colleges' setup in districts of India.
- Various activities will be held under the program in order to uplift innovators in rural parts of the country. It will thus enable newer colleges to rise up as per the Star College scheme mandate.
- The Under Graduate (UG) Science courses will be strengthened due to this program, as these courses will be implemented in ‘Star College’.
- Various scientific and technological innovations will take place under the program at the ‘Star College’.
- The ‘Star College’ scheme was launched by DBT in 2008 to grant support to the colleges and universities delivering UG courses to enhance science culture in the country.
