PM Modi launched 2 Customer Focused Initiatives of RBI

Current Context: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched two initiatives of RBI, which are framed with a major focus on its customers.

• He has launched: (a) RBI Retail Direct (RBI-RD) Scheme (b) Reserve Bank- Integrated Ombudsman Scheme (RBI-IOS).
• The investment scope will be raised because of both schemes.
• Both the schemes will grant easy access to capital markets, and secure investment.
• This will also help to open India’s $1.1 trillion bond market to retail buyers in the GOI bond unit.
• (a) RBI Retail Direct (RBI-RD) Scheme: It will be useful for small investors like employees, small businessmen, and senior citizens to have their savings directly in government securities which are issued by the center and state governments. Under this, the retail individual investor will open a Retail Direct Gilt Account with RBI.
• (b) Reserve Bank- Integrated Ombudsman Scheme (RBI-IOS): It will help to improve the grievance redressal mechanism. It will resolve customer complaints against units that are governed by RBI. It is the ‘One Nation-One Ombudsman’ type of Scheme.
