Rakshak Initiative – Odisha

Current Context: The government of Odisha has launched the ‘Rakshak’ initiative.

The Rakshak is a road safety initiative that aims to train first responders in road accidents.
Under the initiative, 30,000 first responders will be trained by 300 master trainers. It will be executed in 30 districts of the state.
They will be equipped to administer first aid and pre-hospital trauma care to accident victims within the golden hour.
The Commerce and Transport Department in partnership with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the Indian Red Cross Society, Odisha State branch has launched the initiative.
The initiative will be conducted in 2 phases. In the 1st phase, 300 master trainers will be trained by experts from the Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) in ten locations of the state.
In the 2nd phase, the 300 master trainers will visit accident-prone areas and will train locals to assist road accident victims.
