Current Context: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has signed an MoU with Oppo India.
ISRO partnered with Oppo India
  • The MoU was signed to work in the field of R&D of the NavIC messaging service.
  • This service will provide a user-friendly platform.
  • The service will be utilized by Oppo in its phones which will be released in Indian markets for sale.
  • Due to this collaboration, Oppo will be able to develop ready-to-use, end-to-end application-specific solutions by integrating NavIC messaging service with its mobile handset platform.
  • India’s NavIC is an equivalent American GPS system. It offers regional navigation services in India and has the feature to broadcast short messages.
  • It can transfer safety-of-life alert messages in areas where there is poor or no communication system.
  • Under this agreement, Oppo and ISRO will share technical data to work jointly in NavIC messaging service.
