PM Modi inaugurated Saryu Nahar National Project

Current Context: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Saryu Nahar National Project.

• The Saryu Nahar National Project was inaugurated in Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh.
• The work of the project was started in 1978, but due to lack of continuity in budget support, inadequate monitoring, and other reasons, the project was delayed for 4 decades.
• In 2016, the project was brought under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana.
• It is built with total funds of more than Rs. 9,800 crores.
• The project involves the interlinking of 5 rivers namely Saryu, Ghaghara, Banganga, Rapti, and Rohini. Due to this optimum usage of water resources will take place in the region.
• The water for irrigation will be granted to over 14 lakh hectares of land which will thus prove helpful to 29 lakh farmers of the UP.
