Current Context: The Kalpana Chawla Centre for Research in Space Science & Technology (KCCRSST) was inaugurated by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

• The research space center is the first of its kind in North India.
• He also launched Chandigarh University's Defence Scholarship Scheme.
• The scheme is worth Rs 10 crore.
• Chandigarh University's Defence Scholarship Scheme is framed for the wards of Defence Personnel serving in any of the three services.
• He mentioned that due to such initiatives, India will become a leader in future technologies and the research space center will generate great talents who will touch new heights of success similar to late India-born astronaut Kalpana Chawla, who is the 'pride of India'.
