Current Context: Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University.

• The foundation stone was laid down at Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.
• It will be set up at Salawa and Kaili villages of Sardhana town in Meerut.
• The cost of the project is Rs 700 crore.
• The university will help the region and country be self-reliant in sports equipment manufacturing.
• It will also help to fulfill the National Education Policy’s objective to give importance to the sports in the country.
• The Major Dhyan Chand Sports University will provide international sports facilities to the youth as every year more than 1000 youths will graduate from this university.
• It is the first-of-its-kind Sports University which will have modern and state-of-the-art sports infrastructure facilities and will train youths in various sports.
• It will be equipped with synthetic Hockey ground, Football ground, Basketball, Volleyball, Handball, Kabaddi ground, and Lawn tennis court.
• It will be having a synthetic running stadium, swimming pool, Gymnasium Hall, Multipurpose Hall, cycling Velodrome, and dedicated areas for squash, weightlifting, gymnastics, shooting, archery, canoeing, and Kayaking.
