Current Context: India has assured to grant assistance to Sri Lanka to implement a ‘Unitary Digital Identity framework’, which is apparently modelled on the Aadhaar card.

  • In this regard, the Rajapaksa government will work to implement the framework as a national-level program.
  • India will help to introduce a personal identity verification device that will be based on biometric data. It will be a digital tool that will be an identity of individuals which can be accurately verified in digital and physical environments by combining the two devices.
