Current Context: The ‘Rural Connectivity GIS Data in Public Domain’ was released by Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Giriraj Singh.
Rural Connectivity GIS Data in Public Domain
  • It included GIS data for more than 8 lakh rural facilities.
  • The data was collected and digitized by making use of the GIS platform, which is developed by PM-GSY (Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana).
  • The rural connectivity of the GIS Data was made available to the public.
  • While addressing the event, Union Minister Giriraj Singh mentioned that more than 6.90 lakh km of roads are constructed. These roads will grant connectivity to 1,61,508 habitations.
  • The funds of Rs 2.69 lakh crores were used for the same.
  • He also mentioned that the data released for the public will be useful to startups, entrepreneurs, businesses, civil society, academics, and other government departments to build products, conduct research, and plan investments for quicker disaster response.
