Anti-Dumping Duty on 5 Chinese Products

Current Context – On the recommendation of the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) – the Ministry of Finance has imposed anti-dumping duty on 5 Chinese products, namely,

1) flat-rolled products of aluminium,

2) sodium hydrosulphite,
3) silicone sealant,
4) hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) component R-32 and
5) hydrofluorocarbon blends

• Anti-Dumping Duty- This duty is levied when a country is exporting goods to another country at a price that is lower than the actual value of the good. This is considered as an unfair trade practise, hence its levy is permitted by WTO. It is seen as a tool to maintain fair trade and not a measure to protect the domestic market.
