‘Donate-a-Pension’ Initiative

Current Context: The Ministry of Labour and Employment has launched the ‘Donate-a-Pension’ initiative.
‘Donate-a-Pension’ Initiative
  • The initiative is launched under the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-Dhan Yojana (PM-SYM).
  • It is launched to contribute to the celebrations being observed by the ministry for the ‘Iconic Week’ which is being observed from 7th to 13th March 2022 as a part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
  • The initiative aims to encourage people to donate the premium contribution of their immediate support staff such as domestic workers, drivers, nurses, etc. in their houses or establishment or any other eligible unorganized worker.
  • The donar can pay one year’s initial contribution at one time or for more than a year period as well.
  • The donation amount for the year is a minimum of Rs 660 to a maximum of Rs 2400, which depends on the beneficiary’s age.
  • The minimum donation tenure is one year.
  • Thus, the initiative allows any citizen to pay the premium amount on behalf of an unorganized worker under the PM-SYM.
