Current Context: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Pune Metro Rail Project.

  • During this occasion, he also interacted with differently-abled, visually impaired students who were invited to be present inside the metro coach.
  • PM Modi and the students interacted with eachother during a 10-minute ride in the Pune Metro.
  • A total of funds of Rs 11,420 Crore were required for this project.
  • It has a total length of 33.1 km and 30 stations.
  • It is also the first metro project in India having Aluminum body coaches.
  • The project is implemented by Maharashtra MetroRail Corporation (MAHA-METRO) which is the joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Maharashtra.
  • PM Modi inaugurated an exhibition at Garwaare Metro Station and RK Laxman Art Gallery.
  • He unveiled the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the Pune Municipal Corporation.
  • He also participated in the event of celebration of the Golden Jubilee of Symbiosis Institutions. He inaugurated ‘Symbiosis Arogya Dham’.
