Current Context: Recently, World Happiness Report: 2022 was released by United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network.
World Happiness Report: 2022
  • For the fifth time Finland got the 1st rank as the world's happiest country and Afghanistan as the unhappiest country followed by Lebanon.
  • A big boost has been reflected from Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Lebanon, Venezuela, and Afghanistan as the falling countries according to the index.
  • Lebanon is recently facing an economic meltdown and came to 146th rank just below Zimbabwe.
  • In the 10th year of the World Happiness Report, the report is basically based on the assessment of the happiness of the people and also from the economic and social data.
  • The report assigns the happiness score on a scale from 0 to 10, which is based on the average of 3 years of data.
  • This year also Northern Europeans gain the top spots over the index with Danes at 2nd place to the Finns followed by Icelandic, the Swiss, and the Dutch.
  • The US rose to 3 places to 16th which is one ahead of Britain.
  • France climbed to 20th position and it is the highest position of France till date.
  • The Index is published in 2012.
  • Usually, the Index ranks 150 countries but this year it ranked 146 countries.
  • Top 10 Countries according to the report:

    3. Iceland
    4. Switzerland
    5. The Netherlands
    6. Luxembourg
    7. Sweden
    8. Norway
    9. Israel
    10. New Zealand
  • India is in the 136th Position whereas, Pakistan is in the 121st position, according to the index.
