Fortified Rice under PDS

Current Context: Union Cabinet has given approval for the distribution of fortified rice through the targeted public distribution system.

• Approval was given by Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs.
• Fortified rice will be distributed under the targeted Public Distribution System, Integrated Child Development Services, Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman-PM POSHAN, and Other Welfare Schemes.
• The entire cost of fortification of INR 2700 crore per annum will be borne by the Centre.
