Current Context: The University Grants Commission has eased the norms for Dual Degree Programs at Foreign universities, which are in collaboration with Indian universities.

  • What is the key amendment?
    • The UGC has relaxed the earlier criteria for seeking permission. Now to offer the Dual Degree Programs the Indian Universities will not have to seek any permission from UGC.
  • The Collaborating institutes can offer three programs namely joint, dual, and twinning programs. Students will be required to go to foreign universities to earn credits, however they would have to seek permission separately.
  • For such Dual degrees, at least 30 % of the course will have to be learned at the foreign university campus itself.
