  • State news
    • Deloitte India was appointed as the consultant for Uttar Pradesh to help the state achieve the target of a $1-trillion economy. The consultant quoted a bid price of Rs 120 crore.
      • In line with the vision of Prime Minister Modi to make India a $5 trillion economy, CM of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath had a vision of turning UP into a $1trillion economy.
      • GSDP of Uttar Pradesh for 2020-21 was Rs 17.2 trillion. The consultant will analyze the macro and micro economic sectoral data around GSDP, trade, investment, inflation, imports, and export to find out the strength and weaknesses of the UPs economy.
    • CM of Andra Pradesh YS Jagan Mohan Reddy laid the foundation stone of Ramayapatnam port in Nellore district.
      • The initial cost of Rs 3,736.14 crore has been approved for the starting the construction.
      • The foundation ceremony of Ramayapatnam port was earlier performed during the CM Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP government in February 2019, since then no work was initiated by that government.

    • Odisha government to provide 200 additional work days for MGNREGS, above the guaranteed 100 days of work under MGNREGA(Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee) act 2005 in 20 migration-prone blocks of four districts Balangir, Bargarh, Kalahandi, and Nuapada.
    • Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik has approved a new state sector scheme-state support to MGNREGS.
  • Appointments
    • Ranil Wickremesinghe becomes the new president of Sri Lanka. Ranil Wickremesinghe acting president and the six-time former prime minister were appointed as the eighth President of Sri Lanka.
    • Rajarshi Gupta has taken over as Managing Director of ONGC Videsh Ltd (OVL), the overseas investment arm of state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).
  • Banking and finance
    • IRDAI (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India) allows insurance companies to empanel hospitals for cashless treatments.
      • IRDAI has made changes in the ' Guidelines on Standardisation in Health Insurance ' to give effect to the new norms.
      • With the new norms, insurance companies can choose network providers or hospitals which meet their standards.
      • Earlier the insurers could only empanel those network providers which are registered in the hospital registry ROHINI maintained by Insurance Information Bureau(IIB).
  • National news
    • India signed MOU with Namibia for the reintroduction of Cheetahs. Cheetah was declared extinct in the country in 1952.
      • The first batch of Cheetahs comprising of four male and four female cheetahs will arrive in August from Namibia. Namibia has the largest cheetah population in the world.
      • These cheetahs will be introduced in Kuno-Palpur national park in Sheopur district in Madhya Pradesh. The two countries will share expertise to promote cheetah conservation.
