  • Sports
    • Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra wins a silver medal in Javelin Throw at World Athletics Championship in Oregon. He is the only second Indian to win a medal at the championship after long jumper Anju Bobby George, who won bronze in 2003. Neeraj Chopra's best throw 88.13 was achieved in his fourth attempt.
    • The 36-year-old Indian women's team wicketkeeper Karuna Jain announced retirement from all forms of cricket. She represented India, Karnataka, Pondicherry, and South Zone. Her last played test match for India was against England in Delhi in August 2014. She made her ODI debut in 2004 against West Indies.
    • Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the 44th Chess Olympiad on July 28 in Chennai. This is the first time India is hosting the event, where 188 countries have registered. The inauguration will be at Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. PM Modi has flagged off the first ever torch for the Chess Olympiad on July 19.
    • The 1st Khelo India Fencing Women’s League started on 25th July at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi. It will take place until the 29th of this month. It will be held in over three phases. The prize money for each phase has been earmarked at over 17 Lakh rupees.
    • Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen won the French Grand Prix 2022 after Ferrari's Charles Leclerc crashed out. Verstappen, the defending Formula One champion, has extended his lead at the top of the championship table to 63 points ahead of his title rival Leclerc.

    • Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren launches a new tourism policy. He also launched a four-part special promotion audio-visual series titled 'Postcards from Jharkhand'.
    • The United Arab Emirates has granted Kamal Haasan, one of the Tamil film industry's top stars, its prestigious Golden Visa.
    • The government has changed the country's flag code by allowing the tricolor to fly both day and night and be machine-made besides the use of polyester. The move came as the government is going to launch a 'Har Ghar Tiranga' (hoisting of flag in every home) from August 13 to 15 as part of the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav'.

    • Prashant Jain, Executive director and chief investment officer (CIO) at HDFC AMC resigns after 19 years in the firm.

    • July 24 - 162nd Income tax Day/ Aaykar Diwas: The income tax department celebrates July 24th every year as Income tax day or Aaykar Diwas to commemorate the introduction of the provision of income tax in the country.
      • Sir James Wilson introduced income tax in the country for the first time on July 24, 1860. Aaykar diwas was first celebrated on July 24, 2010, to mark 150 years of income tax in India.
    • 25th July 2022 - World Drowning Prevention Day. It was established by the UN General Assembly Resolution “Global drowning prevention” in April 2021.
  • Science And Technology
    • ISRO organizes three days long Human Space Flight Expo at Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium in Bengaluru. This expo is organized to celebrate India's space achievements and 75 years of independence of India.
      • The expo showcased interactive models of how astronauts will travel during the manned mission Gaganyaan.
    • Sahasra Semiconductors to invest Rs 750 cr to set up a memory chip unit at Bhiwadi in Rajasthan.
      • Sahasra becomes the first company to set up a memory chip assembly, test, and packaging unit in the country.
    • China launches a second space station module. The uncrewed craft named Wentian was propelled by Long March 5B rocket from the Wenchang launch center in Hainan. The module has 18 meters (60 feet) long and weighs 22 tons (48,500 pounds), has three sleeping areas, and has space for scientific experiments.
    • Space X launches 53 Starlink satellites into orbit. This marks the sixth launch of the program in July and the 33rd launch of 2022. The satellite was launched from Launch complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
  • Acquisition
    • French satellite company Eutelsat to buy UK-based satellite operator OneWeb. Eutelsat already has a 23 percent stake in OneWeb and is the second biggest shareholder. OneWeb was valued at $3.4 billion in the recent funding.
  • Banking and Finance
    • NCFCD (National Cooperative Financial and Development Company), an umbrella organization for Urban cooperative banks (UCBs) will start operating in 2023.
  • International News
    • World health organization (WHO) declared Monkeypox a global health emergency. As of July 22, there are 16,593 confirmed cases in 68 countries. Most infections were reported in Europe.
