  • International News:
    • Mountaineer Wasifa Nazreen became the first Bangladeshi to scale the second highest mountain peak K2 in Pakistan. She climbed the 8611 meters or 28,251 feet high K2 mountain peak and returned to the base camp.
    • The ninth President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, a retired military commander and politician, took the oath of office in Parliament.
  • Festivals:
    • In Ladakh, Chief Executive Councilor LAHDCK (Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil) Feroz Ahmad Khan Inaugurated the Ladakh Festival Kargil 2022 at Khree Sultan Chow Stadium Bemathang Kargil. The festival is organized by the Department of Tourism and Culture Kargil UT Ladakh.
  • Defence:
    • India Navy and Japan Maritime Self Defense Force conduct maritime partnership exercises in the Andaman Sea. The two countries have been carrying out regular exercises in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) aimed at reinforcing maritime association.
    • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced the setting up of joint theatre commands of the tri-services to enhance coordination among the armed forces.

    • The Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC) at IIT Kanpur has launched the NIRMAN Accelerator Program, supported by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, where 15 start-ups will be selected and given the opportunity to accelerate their product journey from ‘lab to market’. The best-performing startups among the cohort of 15 startups will receive a cash award of up to Rs.1 million.
    • Burhanpur also known as the ‘Darwaza of Dakhin’ in Madhya Pradesh becomes the first ‘Har Ghar Jal’ certified district in the country.
  • Books:
    • On the First death anniversary of “Dilip Kumar” the cinematic legend, a book has launched by Faisal Farooqui. The author is the founder and CEO of Mouthshut.com, a leading review and rating platform in India.
  • Appointments:
    • Roma Balwani was appointed as the CEO of the Indian Deaf Cricket Association (ICDA). In this role, she will be responsible for creating a corporate structure and establishing the brand IDCA as the apex body for deaf cricket in India.
    • Publicly-listed One97 Communications, the parent entity of Paytm, has hired Standard Chartered Bank executive Nakul Jain as CEO of Paytm Payments Services Ltd (PPSL).
    • World Bank appoints Indian national Indermit Gill as Chief economist and senior vice president for development economics at the multilateral development bank. He will be the second Indian to be the Chief economist at the world bank after Kaushik Basu. Indermit Gill will take charge on September 1,2022. He will succeed Carmen Reinhart.
  • Obituaries
    • Titanic and the Omen fame Emmy-winning actor David Warner passed away at the age of 80. He was nominated for Emmy awards for playing Reinhard Heydrich, a Nazi official who was a key architect of the final solution in the 1978 miniseries Holocaust. He won an Emmy award for playing Roman political opportunist Pomponius Falco in the 1981 miniseries ' Masada'.
    • Renowned Marathi writer Anant Yashwant Khare, better known as Nanda Khare, passed away in Pune today due to prolonged illness. He was 76.

    • July 26 - Kargil Vijay Diwas
      • Every year July 26 is observed as Kargil Vijay Diwas to mark India's victory over Pakistan in the Kargil war in 1999. This day nation remembers the heroes of the Indian Army who fought and recaptured the mountain tops of the Northern Kargil district in Ladakh as part of 'Operation Vijay'.
    • July 26 - International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem or World Mangrove Day
      • To raise awareness of the importance of the mangrove ecosystem as "a unique, special, and vulnerable ecosystem" and to promote solutions for their sustainable management, conservation, and uses.

    • City Union Bank inks bancassurance pact with Aditya Birla Health. With this partnership, the bank will distribute health insurance products of Aditya Birla Health Insurance Company Ltd. (ABHICL), the health insurance subsidiary of Aditya Birla Capital Ltd.
      • This is the third health insurance tie-up of City Union Bank as it earlier inked a bancassurance pact with Star Health and Allied Insurance and Care Health (formerly known as Religare Health Insurance Co).
    • Cricket Australia signed a 7-year deal with Disney stars to broadcast men's and women's matches in India. Under this deal, worth $250 million international matches and men's and women's matches will be streamed to India and across Asia from 2023-24.
