Assam government's poverty alleviation scheme to include another 6 lakh beneficiaries

Current Context: Assam government's poverty alleviation scheme Orunodoi will encompass another 6 lakh beneficiaries.
  • The amount given to the beneficiaries will be increased to Rs 1,250 from Rs 1,000 from next month onwards. A logo will be placed outside the houses of the beneficiaries.
  • Under this scheme, money will be transferred through direct beneficiary transfer (DBT), which aims to reduce the financial problems of impoverished families through substantial income support. Presently there are 22 lakh beneficiaries under this scheme.
  • The monthly disbursal under this scheme will increase to Rs 1250 from October 10 onwards. The additional amount of Rs 250 will help the families to pay for their monthly electricity bills.
  • The beneficiary list of the scheme will be updated in the next two months. Till September 20, student volunteers will visit the households and once the field visits are over, the list will be finalized by the district committees by October 10.
