Current Context: India will be part of the 'Pitch Black' exercise in Australia, which will witness the participation of 100 aircraft and 2,500 military personnel from 17 countries.
India to be part of 'Pitch Black' exercise in Australia
  • The exercise will take place from August 19 to September 6. This is a biennial exercise conducted by Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). The last edition of the Pitch Black exercise was held in 2018. The 2020 edition of the exercise was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • Royal Australian Air Force considers the 'Pitch Black' exercise as its capstone international engagement activity with the air forces of strategic partners and allies.
  • The participants include Australia, Canada, India, France, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the Philippines, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, the UAE, the US, and the UK.
  • This exercise will provide personnel from all nations with experience working with aircraft, systems, and work practices in the unique environment of Northern Australia.
