Current Context: The Minister of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, organized the 3rd International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies as "Swachh Vayu Diwas".

  • It was organized to raise awareness and promote actions to improve air quality under National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).
  • IN 2019, September 07 was designated as the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies by the United Nations General Assembly. The first International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies was celebrated in 2020.
  • The main objective of the UN is to raise awareness and facilitate actions to improve air quality around the world.
  • The theme of the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, 2022 is, "The Air We Share”.
  • NCAP was launched by the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEFCC) in 2019 to achieve the goal of Clean Air to All. It is the first-ever effort in the nation to frame a national framework for air quality management.
  • It aims to reduce PM10 and PM2.5 by 20-30%. The base year for comparison has been kept as 2017, and 2024 has been set to achieve the target.
