Gandhinagar-Mumbai Vande Bharat Express

Current Context: Prime Minister Narendra Modi waved off the Gandhinagar-Mumbai Vande Bharat Express.

• It is the third Vande Bharat Express in India, the other two being from New Delhi to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and from Varanasi to New Delhi.
• The Gandhinagar-Mumbai Vande Bharat Express will run each day except for Sundays.
• It is a 16-coach train with a capacity to accommodate 1,128 passengers.
• Surat, Vadodara, and Ahmedabad Railway Stations are kept as stoppages for the train.
• The train will be equipped with features like:

1. CCTV cameras
2. reclining seats
3. automated fire sensors
4. on-demand content with WiFi
5. three-hour battery backup
6. GPS systems

• Apart from this, the trains’ Roof-Mounted Package Unit (RMPU) is also equipped with a photocatalytic UV air purification system.
• The Government of India, in collaboration with the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai aims to build 75 Vande Bharat Express trains by 2023.
