National Conference of Environment Ministers

Current Context: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the National Conference of Ministers of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat.

• The two-day conference witnessed the participation of the Ministers of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change from all across the nation.
• The conference had six thematic sessions:

1. Lifestyle for the Environment (LiFE)
2. PARIVESH (Pro-Active and Responsive facilitation by Interactive and Virtuous Environment Single-window Hub)
3. Forestry Management
4. Prevention and Control of Pollution
5. Wildlife Management
6. Plastics and Waste Management

• At the inaugural event, PM Modi remarked that India was acting as a guiding force in the field of renewable energy, for other countries of the world.
• He further iterated the 2070 net-zero target and emphasized the concept of green growth and green jobs.
• India’s abundant richness in biodiversity with its biodiversity hotspots, bio-geographic zones, sixteen forest types, 54733 floral, and 103258 faunal species was also highlighted during the session.
