  • The report titled, “India Tourism Statistics 2022” was released by the Vice-President of India, Jagdeep Dhankar. According to the report, the state of Maharashtra saw the highest influx of foreign tourists (1.26 million), followed by Tamil Nadu (1.23 million).
  • According to the official data released by the central government, eight core sector industries' growth rate drops to 3.3% in August 2022 from 12.2% in August 2021. The growth rate in the core sector fell to a 9-month low.
  • The Indian Mars Orbiter Craft of Mission Mangalyaan ran out of fuel and battery after completing 8 years orbiting the red planet. Mangalyaan was designed and launched by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
  • According to the data released by the RBI’s Balance of Payment (BoP), India’s Current Account Deficit in the first quarter (Q1) of FY23 widened to USD 23.9 billion, which is 2.8% of the GDP.

  • Obituary:
    • The Chairperson of wind energy firm Suzlon Energy, Tulsi Tanti passed away at the age of 64 due to cardiac arrest.
  • Sports:
    • Indian javelin thrower, Shivpal Singh was suspended from competing till October 2025 due to a doping violation. He tested positive for consuming a performance-enhancing steroid, Methandienone.
    • India (237/3) beat South Africa (221/3) by 16 runs in the 2nd T-20I. Indian opener, KL Rahul was declared Player of the Match for his 57(28) runs.
    • More than 125 people were killed in a stampede following a football match in the Malang city of East Java province, Indonesia.
