Nitin Gadkari launches Toyota’s Pilot Project

Current Context: Union Minister of Road Transport and Highway Nitin Gadkari has launched Toyota’s first-of-its-kind pilot project on Flex Fuel-Strong Hybrid Electric Vehicle (FFV-SHEV).

• It can run on 100% ethanol.
• In this launch, the Toyota Corolla Altis FFV-SHEV was imported from Toyota Brazil for a pilot project which was unveiled.
• It will be able to run on fuel that has an ethanol composition of 20 to 100 percent.
• FFV-SHEV has a flex-fuel engine along with an electric powertrain, which provides the double benefit of higher ethanol.
• These kinds of cars will be able to run on fuels of different compositions also.
• Currently, these kinds of vehicles are available in Brazil, the USA, and Canada.
• Static part- In march this year, India’s first green hydrogen-based advanced fuel cell electric vehicle, Toyota Mirai was launched.
