Current Context: S Jaishankar, Indian union minister of the ministry of external affairs led the Indian delegation to the 77th session of the United Nations General assembly.

  • The theme of the 77th UNGA was “A watershed moment: transformative solutions to the interlocking challenges”.
  • India’s approach to UNGA 77’s 5s is– Samman, Samvaad, Sahyog, Shanti, and Samruddhi.
  • And, the United nation launched its first-ever international finance Facility for education, the national funding of which was $2 billion.
  • Counterterrorism, women-led development, peacekeeping reforms, multilateralism, climate action, and COVID-19 vaccines were one of the main focus areas in this year’s session.
  • Among this, QUAD‘s first foreign minister's meeting was held in which the countries reaffirmed their partnership in the Indo-Pacific.
  • India will be hosting the three foreign ministers meeting in the 2023 and 2024 summits.
  • The G4 foreign ministerial meeting was also held.
  • Static Part- General Antonio Guterres is the UN Secretary and the President of UNGA 77 is Csaba Korosi.
