  • According to the report issued by the Ministry of home affairs and the office of registrar general and census commissioner. The infant mortality rate for males and females in India will be equalized in 2020.
  • The infant mortality rate for every 1000 births is 28 for both males and females.
  • At the national level, the infant mortality rate was 37 in the year 2015 which dropped to 30 in 2019 and now to 28 in 2020.
  • Madhya Pradesh has the highest infant mortality rate of 43 while Kerala has the lowest of 6.
  • The rural infant mortality rate was higher than the urban infant mortality rate in every state of the nation.
  • According to the United Nations data for 2020, India is the only country with a nearly equal male and female infant mortality rate among the countries above 20.
