Tamil Nadu notifies the First Sanctuary for Endangered Slender Lorises

Current Context: Tamil Nadu government notified the Kadavur Slender Loris Sanctuary, it is the first of its kind in the nation.

• It is made with a financial outlay of Rs. 26 crores.
• It is made in the Karur and Dindigul districts of Tamil Nadu.
• This sanctuary will be spread across a total of 11,806 hectares.
• It was merged with forest areas of 5,700 hectares in Karur and 6,106 hectares in the Dindigul districts.
• This sanctuary includes 4 reserve forests in Dindigul.
• Static Part- In April this year, an announcement was made to establish India’s first wildlife sanctuary for slender loris under section 26(A)(1)(b) of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
