Tele-MANAS initiative launched on World Mental Health Day

Current Context: T.C. Gehlot, Governor of Karnataka has virtually launched the Tele Mental Health Assistance and Networking across States (Tele-MANAS).

• It intends to offer 24/7 tele-mental health services throughout India free of cost.
• It focuses on individuals living in remote or underserved areas.
• It is an initiative of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&W).
• It will be divided into two tiers. The First will consist of cells including trained counselors and mental health specialists.
• The National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) will serve as its nodal organization.
• It has been launched in over 16 states of the country.
• Static part: In the union budget of 2022-23, the government of India announced the National elemental health program addressing the health crisis. These steps are taken under the same initiative.
