  • National News:
    • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the second Rozgar Mela in order to enhance employment opportunities among the youth. As a part of the initiative, PM Modi handed out 71,000 appointment letters to recruits.
    • The Union Minister of Defence, Rajnath Singh, held a bilateral meeting with the US Secretary of Defence, Lloyd Austin, at the sidelines of the 9th ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM) Plus in Cambodia.
    • The Union Minister of Tourism, G Kishan Reddy, inaugurated the 10-day-long Manipur Sangai Festival at Sangai Ethnic Park of Moirang Khunou in Manipur. The theme of the event is, “Festival of Oneness”.
    • The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) announced the restoration of the price cap for a TV channel, which is part of a bouquet, from Rs 12 to Rs. 19.
    • Russia became the top supplier of fertilizers to India after surpassing China. For the first half of FY23, Russia’s fertilizer export accounts for nearly 21% share of the Indian fertilizer market.
    • The Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR) launched the “jumbo trails” program in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, to educate visitors about the elephants, flora, and fauna of the tiger reserve along with the aboriginal tribes.

    • A factory fire killed 38 people and left many injured in Anyang city in central China’s Henan province.
  • Appointments:
    • Binod Kumar was appointed as the Executive Director of the Punjab National Bank (PNB) by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
    • T.G. Sitharam was appointed as the Chairperson of the All India Institute for Technical Education (AICTE) by the Ministry of Education for a 3-year tenure.
  • Awards and Honors:
    • The Karnataka Vikas Grameen Bank (KVGB) was given the National Award by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) for Atal Pension Yojana enrolments.
    • The Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar for the 2021-22 Academic Year was awarded by the Ministry of Education to 39 schools across India. Out of these 39 schools, 28 schools were government-owned and aided institutions while 11 schools are private.
  • Obituary:
    • Former Indian football captain, Babu Mani, passed away at the age of 59. He was part of the 1984 AFC Asian Cup team as a forward.
  • Sports:
    • Novak Djokovic (Serbia) won the 2022 ATP World Tour Finals after defeating Casper Ruud (Norway) by 7-5 6-3. It was Djokovic’s 6th ATP World Tour Title and with this, he equalled the record of Roger Federer.
    • The four-time Formula One World Champion, Sebastian Vettel (Germany) announced his retirement from F1 Racing. He was associated with Red Bull (2009-15), Ferrari (2015-20), and Aston Martin (2020-22).
