  • National News:
    • The two-judge bench of the Supreme Court of India, comprising Justice DY Chandrachud and Hima Kohli, reiterated the ban on “per vaginal examination” or “two-finger test” in cases of rape. The bench said that the test was purely based on a patriarchal mindset and must be curbed.
    • The Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) Unified Payments Interface (UPI) recorded 7.3 billion (730 crores) transactions in October 2022. The transactions saw a rise of 7.7% compared to September 2022.
    • The 3rd National Tribal Dance Festival began in the Raipur district of Chhattisgarh. Around 1500 tribal artists from India and countries like Mongolia, Indonesia, Russia, Maldives, Mozambique, and Tongo will take part in the festival.
    • The Deputy CM and the Home Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadanavis, informed the setting up of a dedicated Cyber Intelligence Unit in the state to curb cyber and financial crimes.
    • The Home Minister of Gujarat, Harsh Sanghavi, informed the setting up of a committee for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state. After Uttarakhand, the state of Gujarat has become the second state in India to constitute a committee on the UCC.

  • International News:
    • In a USD 100 million deal, the tech giant Google bought Artificial Intelligence- Avatar Start-up, Alter, which was previously known as Facemoji.
    • India donated USD 2.5 million to the United Nations Relief and Work Agency (UNRWA) to support Palestine refugees. This was the second tranche of India’s total contribution of USD 5 million in FY23.
  • Important Days:
    • Every year 02 November is observed as the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists (IDEI) around the world. It is an initiative of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The theme of the IDEI-2022 is, “Protecting Media to Protect Democracy”.
  • Awards and Honors:
    • Union Home Minister’s Special Operation Medal 2022:
    1. 63 Police Officers from Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Maharashtra, Punjab, and Telangana were awarded.
    2. The awards were given by the Home Ministry for conducting 4 special operations by the police forces in areas like terrorism, narcotics smuggling, arms control, etc.
    • The prestigious “Friends of Liberation War” honour was conferred upon former US Senator Edward M Kennedy posthumously by the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka for his contribution to the liberation of Bangladesh.
  • Books and Authors:
    • French Author Rene Naba authored a new bilingual book in both, the French and English languages, titled “De la NuclĂ©arisation de l’Asie“(The Nuclearization of Asia). The book was published by Golias.
  • Sports:
    • The Union Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurial Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with FIFA and the All India Football Federation (AIFF) for the “Football4Schools” initiative in India.
    • Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won the Mexican Grand Prix 2022. Verstappen, with his 14th win in 2022, broke the record for most wins in a calendar year. Earlier this record was held by Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel (both won 13 races in a year).
